Spreading the Sunshine

by Danielle Sharpy

One of my favorite ways to start my mornings is to turn on WAY FM and sing at the top of my lungs.  Got to get in my daily praise to Jesus. Before I left my job to become a full time mommy, I’d spend my morning drives tuned in to the “Mornings with Brant” morning show. On one particular Friday, I was making my usual Dunkin Donuts run when I heard the morning crew talking about “Pay it Forward Fridays!”  I listened to callers call in and share how they just paid for the person behind them various fast food drive thrus.  It was so nice to hear how happy it made these people to do something kind for some one else.

As I inched closer to the drive thru window to pay for my medium coffee with cream and sugar, I made up my mind that I was going to give it a try.  After collecting the change for my order I asked the woman for the total of the order for the person behind me and proceeded to pay for it.  The lady in the window asked if I knew the women. I told her no and that I merely wanted to show a random act of kindness to the woman.  She thought it was great and I could tell she was just as excited to tell her as I was for her to tell the woman! I pulled away absolutely giddy. It would only be 2 fridays after that when the kindness ended up being returned to me by a stranger in the same Dunkin Donuts line.  I must admit it felt just as good to have received that kindness as it did to give it.
Check back in March when I share how I celebrated my birthday with random acts of kindness. I got the idea from a blog I found on Pinterest and swore I would do it for my next birthday.  There’s no reason to not try to spread the love as much as you can.   I’m going to put my best foot forward and make every attempt to perform one random act of kindness every friday. Care to join me? Whether it’s watching a friends kid while she runs errands (my phone will ring the minute this is read), making scones for my husband to take to his co-workers or merely buying the next perfect stranger a cup of Joe.
