DIY Mother’s Day gifts

Mother’s Day is coming but it doesn’t have to break the bank. Mother’s Day’s gifts are not about how much money you can spend. A little creativity can go a long way. Using online coupon codes you can find the perfect Mother’s Day gift without spending all your money.

There is nothing more special than taking the time to put together a special gift that shows mom how much she means to you.  Here are some examples of great “Do it yourself” gifts!

“Stained Glass” Photo Frame

Display a nice photo of Mom in a colorful, easy-to-make transparent frame that resembles stained glass. To make, layer colorful strips in a float frame. Mask off stripes on the front of both glass panes using painter’s tape and paying attention to how the transparent stripes will look once they overlap each other in the finished product. Dip a small foam roller in glass paint and roll on the back of each glass pane. Peel off the tape to reveal your stripes and put the frame together to make a lovely Mother’s Day gift.

Flower Photos in a Card Stand

Give Mom a bouquet that she can treasure long past Mother’s Day. Cut pictures into circles and adhere them to the inside bottoms of paper muffin liners. Cut stems and leaves from green paper and form them– with the liners –into picture blossoms on cardstock. Have everyone in the family make a card for Mom and place them in a card stand.

Mason Jar Vases

To recreate these all you need is:

1. A glass mason jar of any brand and any size.

2. Silver spray paint in metallic or gloss or matte, depending on your mood. Or you could be wild and go for gold.

3. Some newspaper to lay down under the jars so your whole world doesn’t become silver and gold.

Once they’re nice and dry you can put some marbles or smooth pebbles in the bottom to help ground the flowers.  Just think of all of the inexpensive possibilities here with colors and shapes and sizes and flower varieties. It’s a fun way to decorate for all of the upcoming holidays. This is my new favorite discovery. Inexpensive and instantly festive.
